Video Apps Lead China's Q3 2012 Android Downloads

Fuzhou-based online game developer and operator NetDragon Websoft's (0777.HK) indirect mobile internet subsidiary 91 Limited has released a report detailing trends in China's Android mobile app marketplace in Q3 2012. According to the report, video broadcasting apps were the most popular Android apps in China, among China's top 200 apps, accounting for 13.1% of total Android app downloads, up from 11.4% in Q2 2012.
During the last week of September alone there were more than 1 mln localized service Android app downloads in China, as compared to 200,000 localized service app downloads in the last week of June. Food and restaurant related apps saw their weekly download total increase to an average of 1.5 mln, while average weekly downloads of 2D barcode apps fell to below 1 mln.
Casual games accounted for 59% of all Android game downloads for the quarter. Mobile security product downloads have been growing for the past six months and reached an average weekly download total of nearly 9 mln in Q3 2012.
The report was issued by 91 Limited's digital research center.
