Update: Xiaomi Acquires E-Reader Software Firm Duokan

Sohu IT, 11/13/12

Lei Jun, chairman of Beijing-based Android handset developer Xiaomi, confirmed recently that Xiaomi has wholly acquired e-reader software designer Duokan Technology. Duokan will be an independently operated division of Xiaomi, and former Duokan CEO Wang Chuan has been named Xiaomi's eighth "co-founder." R&D work tasked to Duokan on the Xiaomi set-top box (STB) project has already been completed. The STB is currently undergoing small-scale beta testing, and could be launched in as little as two months.

Xiaomi co-founder Li Wanqiang said that the company had no plans to produce its own tablet computers, adding that Xiaomi does not have overly high hopes for the STB, which it sees as playing a supporting role in the expansion of the company's mobile phone business.
