China to Regulate Online Auctions

On November 8, China's Ministry of Commerce revealed at a national auction industry work meeting in Guangzhou that it intends to introduce a set of policies aimed at promoting the development of online auctions, and that it is currently circulating a draft version of the policies for comment. The draft proposes that the government conduct investigations into the legal, public property, state asset, land rights, and cultural artifact-related aspects of auctions, and that it provide guarantees for online auctions including verifying bidder identity and ensuring the fairness and authenticity of online auctions.
