Microsoft Increases Price of Chinese OEM Edition of Win8

Sina Tech, 11/07/12

A senior manager at a PC manufacturer revealed recently that Microsoft has increased the price of the Chinese OEM edition of Windows 8 by several hundred yuan. "It's an almost intolerably large price hike," the source said. Microsoft reportedly went ahead with the price increase despite opposition from manufacturers. A source inside Microsoft China declined to reveal details of Windows 8 pricing, citing concern over business secrets.

An industry source revealed that Microsoft set manufacturer limits on sale period and quotas for Windows 7 in an attempt to promote Windows 8 adoption in China, meaning that once the end of the period is reached or the quota of Windows 7 licenses is filled, the price for Windows 7 OEM installations will increase to the same level as that of Windows 8.
