TouchPal Mobile Dialing App Adds New Features

Chinese mobile app developer CooTek recently released version 4.5.0 of its TouchPal mobile dialing application for the iOS and Android platforms, adding an intelligent "number-sight" feature. Users of the application can input the name of any business (such as restaurants, taxi companies, or hospitals) through Pinyin, or browse by the initial letter of the business name, to find the business's phone number. Chain businesses will have franchise phone numbers displayed in order of distance from the user. The new "number-sight" feature also allows users to block calls from harassing or fraudulent callers. If users receive a fraudulent or harassing phone call from a number not in TouchPal's database, they can report the caller from within the application. TouchPal will verify and record all numbers reported.
The new "number-sight" feature operates separately from users' contact lists. Users of TouchPal can download offline data packs containing phone numbers for different cities: numbers for businesses in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen are already available for download.
According to figures previously released by CooTek, there are nearly 10 mln users of TouchPal at present, the majority of them based in China. Of the more than 80 mln users of the TouchPal input method, 60 mln are overseas. The company's input method provides CooTek with a steady stream of profits from pre-installation agreements and paid downloads for overseas users.
