GAPP Orders Online Media to Self-Monitor Content
China Press and Publishing Journal, 11/05/12
In order to promote Chinese Communist Party directives on Internet publishing given during China's 18th National Party Congress, the General Administration of Press and Publication's (GAPP) Technology and Digital Publishing Office launched a pilot project on November 3 for a self-monitoring mechanism for large-scale online media. GAPP's Technology and Digital Publishing Office have selected ten influential websites to participate in the pilot project.
Chinese internet firms Sina (Nasdaq: SINA), Sohu (Nasdaq: SOHU), Netease (Nasdaq: NTES), Tencent (0700.HK), Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU), Qidian, ChineseAll.com, Kong.net, Readnovel.com, and Jinjiang Literature City (jjwxc.net) were all selected to participate in the pilot project. The companies will establish a nation-wide Internet publishing content editing process with relevant administrative agencies to strengthen analysis and decision-making regarding publishing hazards, and achieve classification-based management of the content of publications.
