MornCloud Unveils RMB 999 'Dakele' Handset

Beijing-based handset developer MornCloud Information and Technology today officially revealed the company's 5-inch 'Dakele' handset. The RMB 999 handset comes equipped with an 1GHz MTK6577 dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of ROM, a 2450mAH battery, 500 and 200 megapixel rear- and front-facing cameras, and a 640x960 5.0-inch screen. The first batch of 300,000 handsets will be available for preorder on the afternoon of November 5 through the official Dakele website and consumer electronics and home appliances retailer Suning's (002024.SZ) Suning.com B2C platform, and will be shipped on November 20. The first batch of the Dakele handset will also be offered as a subsidized contract phone to China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) users in Beijing.
The Dakele runs a customized Android OS that comes in three versions: original, search, and SNS. The SNS version of the Dakele was developed in part with Shanghai-based Android ROM developer LeWa Tek, and provides enhanced ROM and microblogging integration features. The search version of the Dakele was developed in tandem with Chinese internet company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) and features a ROM customized for optimal mobile search results and data caching in both English and Chinese.
The Dakele handset will provide users with three months of free VIP video streaming services from Chinese online video site LeTV (Leshi) (300104.SZ), one year of free mobile reading services from Beijing-based mobile app developer Zhangzhong Haoyue, and customized apps from LBS mobile chat service Momo, Netease's (Nasdaq: NTES) news portal, and Tencent's (0700.HK) news portal.
