According to an industry source, Tencent (0700.HK) has acquired Beijing-based customer relationship management (CRM) service provider Tongka Network Technology.
Tongka currently has more than one hundred employees and will work with Tencent to develop offline to online (O2O) services. According to an industry insider, Tongka employees have begun to refer to their company as "being involved with Weixin" when meeting clients, referring to Tencent's Weixin (WeChat) mobile messaging application.
Tongka was established by angel investor Mai Gang and former CEO of software developer Bluepoint Linux Deng Yu. The company has received investment from DJK Dragon and Shenzhen Capital Group.
Tongka is primarily involved in the development and operation of CRM software products and mobile apps. According to the company, Chinese restaurant chains Golden Hans, Big Pizza, and Quanjude all currently use Tongka CRM software.
