CCID, 10/22/12
Shenzhen-based online game developer and operator ZQGame (Zhongqingbao Interaction Network) (300052.SZ) has partnered with Chinese third-party payment processor Alipay to provide RMB 200 mln in in-game rewards for players of ZQGame's licensed 2.5D MMORPG Bing Wang. ZQGame and Alipay will hand out approximately 6.66 mln in free rewards to gamers, for a maximum payment of RMB 33 per account.
According to an industry source, both ZQGame and Alipay will front a portion of the RMB 200 mln for rewards. Alipay is hoping to expand its presence in the online gaming market through the promotion. Alipay currently provides complete in-game payment solutions for Bing Wang.
According to the source, Alipay plans to expand its partnership with Bing Wang, allowing users to purchase in-game items through new methods such as scanning QR codes. Bing Wang players can access C2C & B2C e-commerce site Taobao and other online sites directly through the Bing Wang client.
Editor's Note: Tencent (0700.HK) has recently launched a similar in-game rewards promotion through its self-developed 3D MMORPG Legend of Yulong. Tencent's rewards will be in the form of its "Q Coin" virtual currency.
