Sina Tech, 9/28/12
Shenzhen Huawei Investment & Holding, the parent company of Chinese telecom equipment and terminal manufacturer Huawei Technologies, recently invested RMB 116.91 mln to buy 1,900 acres of land in Dongguan, Guangdong Province. The land will be used to build a manufacturing and R&D center for Huawei's handset manufacturing subsidiary, Huawei Device. An industry source has stated that the center would house both an R&D hub and an employee-training branch.
The plot of land went up for auction on the Chinese government's Dongguan Land and Resources Exchange website on September 11, with a starting price of RMB 116.91 mln. Shenzhen Huawei Investment & Holding, being the only company to bid on the land, purchased the plot at the starting price.
The 233,816 thousand square meter plot of land is located on the southern side of Dongguan's Song Shan Lake in Guangdong province. The local government has purposed the land for use by scientific industries. Huawei will hold usage rights to the land for fifty years and plans to invest approximately RMB 10 bln for handset R&D, marketing, and value-added services at the new location.
According to the land transfer requirements, Huawei must begin construction prior to September 26, 2013 and must finish completion on the terminal center by September 26, 2014.
