Google Halts Music Search in China
Sina Tech, 9/21/12
Yang Wenluo, GM of Engineering Research at online search engine Google China, announced today on Google China's official blog that the company will end its music search service in China. Online music provider Orca Digital, the provider of Google China's music search feature, has yet to comment on the matter.
According to Yang, the results of Google China's music search service were not as the company had hoped, and for this reason Google has decided to shift resources to other product teams.
Google and Orca Digital partnered in August 2008 to incorporate Orca Digital search results into a Google China music search feature. The service launched in 2009.
Upon completion of second round funding in 2011, Orca Digital CEO Gary Chen stated that Google was the company's second largest shareholder. Orca Digital operates the website top100.cn.
