Zheng Deyu, CEO of Zhejiang-based display manufacturer Tyloo Optical, recently announced that Tyloo Group, Hisun Group, and Celvision have jointly invested in a RMB 120 mln glasses-free 3D TV set production line scheduled to go online in mid-September. The first batch of 1,000 units is expected to reach the market in time for the National Day holiday (September 30 to October 7).
Only a handful of the first batch is expected to reach domestic consumers in mainland China. Zheng explained that Tyloo has received orders from e-commerce platforms such as 360Buy and Suning's (002024.SZ) Suning.com, and some offline domestic retailers also want to offer test sales of the new TV set. TV manufacturers such as Changhong (600839.SH) and Skyworth Digital Holdings (0751.HK) have ordered the TV set for R&D purposes and are considering joint production partnerships, while at the same time major retailers such as Wal-Mart have placed orders for sales overseas.
Zheng added that the first batch includes a 42-inch and a 46-inch model, and that while prices will be determined by trial sales, they will cost at least RMB 10,000. Tyloo's distribution center will be based in Shanghai, while the production facility is based at Tyloo's Zhoushan headquarters.
