Hunan Satellite TV Stops Live Webcasts of Happy Camp

IT Times, 9/10/12

A July 21 posting on the official microblog account for Hunan Satellite TV's program Happy Camp announced that the entertainment show had begun to phase out all online live feeds of the program. A source close to Chinese P2P streaming video platform PPLive (PPTV) confirmed recently that Hunan Satellite had requested its partners to stop streaming the show. In consideration of PPLive's friendly relationship with Hunan Satellite, the source said, PPTV will either display placeholder text during the corresponding time slot or find other programming to fill the slot.

An industry source explained that Hunan Satellite TV's recent low ratings have been blamed largely on online feeds drawing viewers away, leading the station to cancel live feeds of popular shows. Other analysts say the cancellation of online feeds could be an attempt to support the growth of Hunan Satellite's own new media platform.
