Taobao Sets New Sales Policies for Merchants
Ebrun, 8/09/12
Hangzhou-based C2C & B2C e-commerce site Taobao issued a notice today that it will refer to its "seven new policies" as the "Taobao Sales Activity Rules" in the future. The new policies remove requirements for merchants' positive customer feedback rates while simultaneously setting harsh new penalties for fraudulent transactions and sales of fake items.
Taobao says that vendors who are docked 48 or more points for fraudulent transactions or 24 or more points for sales of fake items will have their online sales privileges permanently restricted. Other merchants found to be engaging in fraudulent transactions or selling fake products will have their online sales privileges restricted for a 90-day period. Vendors docked between 12 and 24 points for selling fake products will have all online sales privileges restricted for the remainder of the calendar year. The new rules dictate that for most infringements, merchants' online sales privileges will be restricted for 90 days upon being docked a total of 12 points or any multiple of 12.
Taobao says the new rules will take effect on August 15, 2012.
