Shanghai to Offer Limited Free Public Wi-Fi Service

Oriental Morning Post, 7/25/12

The Shanghai municipal government announced recently that free Wi-Fi networks will open to the public at the end of July in public spaces around the city. The service will be available for two hours of free connectivity per day. Wi-Fi routers for the service are jointly set up and operated by Shanghai Mobile, Shanghai Unicom, and Shanghai Telecom, and are provided to the public under the unified public service brand "i-Shanghai." Connectivity will be tested in nearly 30 public venues on July 27, with coverage expanding to more than 300 public spaces by year's end and 450 key public spaces by the end of 2013.
