Baihe Yet to Implement Real-Name System
Shanghai Evening Post, 7/23/12
When signing up as a new user on Chinese dating site Baihe.com recently, a reporter for the Shanghai Evening Post was able to log in as a regular user with full "My Baihe" functionality, despite not having undergone real-name verification.
Unverified users can fill out and complete their profile information, upload photographs, define and save their match preferences, receive and respond to messages, search for other Baihe members, send them greetings, and send in-site message responses after the other party sends them reciprocating greetings. When purchasing "red beans" - Baihe's virtual currency - the reporter was asked to enter a name. Despite entering a false name, the reporter was able to purchase "red beans" with a credit card, and to use them for Baihe's paid services including "Broadcast," "Comment," and "First Impressions."
On December 15, 2011, Baihe announced that it had implemented "100% real-name" policy and would require real-name verification for all areas of the site following the March 1, 2012 end of the transition period. At the time, Baihe claimed that only users who had submitted and verified real-name identity data would be able to use the site's matchmaking services.
