China Telcos Announce June 2012 Subscriber Totals

China's three main telecom operators have announced their subscriber totals for June 2012.
June saw the net addition of 11.82 mln new mobile subscribers. China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) added 5.59 mln new mobile subscribers, pushing the operator's total mobile user base to 683.08 mln, of which a total of 67.08 mln subscribers used China Mobile's TD-SCDMA terminals during the month. China Mobile added 2.82 mln new TD-SCDMA subscribers in June.
China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) added 3.41 mln new mobile subscribers during the month, bringing its total to 219.25 mln. Of the new mobile subs added, approximately 381,000 were GSM subscribers, bringing China Unicom's total GSM user base to 161.72 mln, and 3.03 mln were WCDMA 3G subscribers, pushing the company's total WCDMA user base to 57.53 mln subscribers.
China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) added 2.82 mln CDMA subs, taking its total to 144.18 mln, of which 50.96 mln were CDMA2000 EV-DO subscribers. China Telecom added 2.80 mln new CDMA2000 EV-DO subscribers in June.
Of the combined total of 175.57 mln 3G subs, China Mobile holds 38.21%, China Unicom 32.77%, and China Telecom 29.03%. Of total new mobile subs added in June, China Mobile took 47.30%, dropping its share of China's total mobile user base to 65.27%. China Unicom's share of the total mobile user base increased for the 17th straight month, rising from 20.86% at the end of May to 20.95% at the end of June, while China Telecom's share increased for the 42nd straight month, rising from 13.66% at the end of May to 13.78% at the end of June.
China Telecom lost 310,000 fixed-line subs, reducing its total to 167.49 mln, and China Unicom gained 60,000 fixed-line subs, increasing its total to 92.57 mln.
China Telecom added 1.22 mln new broadband subscribers to reach 83.70 mln, and China Unicom added 861,000 new broadband subs to reach 60.53 mln.
