China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) recently concluded bidding in its 2012 WCDMA network expansion tender. Chinese telecom equipment and terminal manufacturers Huawei, ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), and Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell (ASB) won bids for system equipment, as did Ericsson and Nokia-Siemens Networks. Huawei and ZTE were the big winners, accounting for 60% of the total volume, with Huawei taking a slight lead over ZTE to become the biggest winner.
