Donews, 7/09/12
Chinese internet firm Baidu's (Nasdaq: BIDU) online travel services subsidiary Qunar announced today that it will invest USD 30 mln in developing an intelligent platform for travel services, to which end it will establish a second R&D center in Shanghai to assemble R&D efforts for the platform.
The new intelligent platform for travel services will be open free-of-charge to all online travel service providers, and will offer low-level services with the aim of establishing a unified service standard. The platform will comprise intelligent upgrades to call centers, guarantees for pre-bookings, one-button access to customer booking data, third-party payment platforms, "express lanes" for customer order processing, automated access for booking complaints, complaint process monitoring, and other services. The company's USD 30 mln investment in the platform will go mainly towards hiring for and funding the development of the intelligent service platform.
Qunar CEO Zhuang Chenchao said that Qunar's platform currently listed roughly 20,000 travel service providers. Qunar hopes to attract more service providers through the open travel services platform.
