Shenzhen IPTV Service Kicks Off Commercial Launch

On June 26, China Central Television (CCTV)'s national online TV station China Network TV (CNTV), Shenzhen Media Group (SZMG), and China Telecom's (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) Shenzhen branch jointly announced the official commercial launch of Shenzhen IPTV service. At present, Shenzhen IPTV covers 73 live-streaming channels, of which 9 are HD and 64 are SD. Shenzhen IPTV also provides Video on Demand (VOD), playback, and other value-added services. The VOD service includes 13 different channels, including news, sports, TV dramas, and fashion entertainment, offering a total of over 20,000 hours of programming, with 500 hours of program updates per week.
Editor's Note: In the cooperation outlined above, CNTV is responsible for providing programming meant for nationwide distribution, Shenzhen Media Group for providing locally produced content, and Shenzhen Telecom for operating the service (i.e. marketing, set-top box distribution, billing, subscriber data management, etc.)
