USITC Investigates Huawei, ZTE for Imaging Patent Violations

USITC, 6/25/12

The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) has voted to institute an investigation of certain electronic imaging devices. The products at issue in this investigation are mobile phones, tablet computers, and other devices having imaging capabilities.

The investigation is based on a complaint filed by FlashPoint Technology on May 23, 2012. The complaint alleges violations of section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 in the importation into the United States and sale of certain electronic imaging devices that infringe patents asserted by complainant. The complainant requests that the USITC issue an exclusion order and cease and desist orders.

Respondents named in the complaint include Chinese telecom equipment and terminal manufacturers Huawei and ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), as well as Taiwanese consumer electronics manufacturer HTC.
