Sina Microblog Launches Premium Membership Service

Chinese internet company Sina (Nasdaq: SINA) officially launched the RMB 10/month premium member service for its Weibo microblogging platform today.
Premium members will enjoy special privileges in the areas of user identity, service features, mobile use, and security. The number of users premium members will be permitted to follow will be raised from 2,000 to 2,500 for VIP plans 1 through 3, and to 3,000 for VIP plans 4 through 6.
Premium members will also be given preferential placement in the Weibo platform's recommendations display. Special privileges include badges marking premium members as VIPs, dedicated user page modules, faster "leveling up," and voice Weibo updates.
Users who pay for a year's premium membership in advance will receive a 10% discount (RMB 108), while advance payments for three, six, and nine months of service will also receive discounted rates. Users may pay via Chinese banking network China UnionPay, using Sina's "Weibi" virtual currency, or through charges to their mobile or telephone subscription plans.
