Shanda Announces Bambook S1 Smartphone
Sina Tech, 6/06/12
Chinese online media and game operator Shanda Interactive officially announced the Bambook S1 mobile phone in Beijing today. The phone features a dual-core 1 GHz processor and a 4.3" display. Shanda has signed an order for 3 mln units of the handset with China P&T Appliances (PTAC) subsidiary China P&T Communications Equipment Co., Ltd. Pre-orders will open for the Bambook S1 at noon on June 28. Shanda subsidiary Nut Shell Electronics oversaw development of the handset with the same team that previously produced the Bambook e-reader device. The Bambook handset project officially launched last year, ultimately settling on a processor solution from ST-Ericsson for development. The 8 GB version of the handset will be priced at RMB 1,299; the 16 GB version, at RMB 1,499.
Nut Shell Electronics CEO Guo Zhaohui emphasized that the Bambook S1 uses an ARM Cortex A9 dual-core architecture, making it considerably more powerful than the A8-based Xiaomi handset from rival Android developer Xiaomi.
The handset will come with ten games preinstalled, including the casual games Fishing Joy, Fruit Ninja, and Woool of Paladin, and will offer users RMB 500 worth of e-books from Shanda Literature.
