IBM to Enter China's Public Cloud Services Market

Southern Metropolitan News, 5/29/12

During the recent 2012 IBM Cloud Computing Forum in Beijing, IBM announced it will build a public cloud service in China with local partners. The Chinese government has yet to provide licenses to any foreign operators, leaving the world's cloud giants unable to compete.

"A license is necessary to operate domestic cloud services, which is why IBM has chosen to partner with domestic telecom operators and other licensed partners," said Wang Shenghang, general manager of IBM's China cloud computing division, adding that IBM will follow all regulations pertaining to cloud service platforms and actively seek to cooperate with all levels of the Chinese government and industry leaders.
