Sina Microblog Adds TV Program-Sharing Feature to Homepage
BiaNews, 5/18/12
Chinese internet company Sina's (Nasdaq: SINA) Weibo microblogging platform recently launched a "TV sharing" feature. After choosing to share a video from the standard Weibo posting box, users can choose "Share TV" to select from a list of currently airing shows. After they click the "Post Kandian" button, Weibo's platform will post five screen captures from the previous ten seconds of the show as a "Kandian" clip. Users can also choose up to two minutes of footage to share, along with a screenshot, to Sina Weibo.
The new feature is based on Sina's social TV platform "Kandian," which currently offers real-time sharing for channels including all of CCTV's offerings, nearly 30 regional satellite channels, several dozen regional stations, and overseas stations including Phoenix TV, STAR, and TVB Jade. Users who aren't able to share live TV content in time can log onto Kandian.com to share older TV program clips.
