Rumor: China to Announce Appliance Recycling Subsidy Policy

Southern Weekly, 5/04/12

China's new electronic appliance disposal management duties policy has been submitted to the State Council and will be announced in June, according to an industry insider. Electronics manufacturers will pay a fee that will be used to subsidize the electronics recycling industry. Meanwhile, relevant government agencies will conduct the first national-level investigation of 105 recyclers in May, and those that do meet environmental and other standards will be ineligible to receive subsidies. According to statistics from China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the country has entered the peak season for electrical appliance recycling, with volume increasing an average of 20% annually and expected to reach 160 mln units in 2012.
