Datang Telecom to Wholly Acquire Leadcore, Uniscope

Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer Datang Telecom (600198.SH) has announced that it will accelerate plans to wholly acquire three companies - Chinese TD-SCDMA chip maker Leadcore Technology, mobile phone design and manufacturing firm Shanghai Uniscope Technologies, and its subsidiary Qidong Uniscope Electronics. Datang Telecom has sped up due diligence and auditing assessments of the three firms, and is continuing negotiations with their respective shareholders.
Leadcore, a subsidiary of Datang Telecom's parent Datang Group, is primarily engaged in the development of TD-SCDMA terminal chipset technology.
Datang Telecom holds a 51% stake in Shanghai Uniscope, which is involved in the manufacture of telecom and telecom-related products. Established in October 2005, Uniscope initially designed, manufactured and sold GSM handset products. Currently it has product lines in 2.5G (GSM and CDMA) and 3G (TD-SCDMA and CDMA2000 EV-DO) mobile terminal products, and is preparing to offer WCDMA products. The company has also established a smartphone and OEM production platform. In 2009, Shanghai Uniscope recorded revenues of RMB 684.48 mln and net income of RMB 77.23 mln.
Qidong Uniscope's businesses include mobile terminal software and hardware design, handset solutions, and the sale of handsets and key handset components. The company's products cover mobile handsets, wireless wireline phones, wireless modems, data cards, and other CDMA and GSM mobile devices.
