Rumor: Dangdang to Join QQ Buy Platform
Ebrun.com, 3/02/12
An industry source revealed today that in order to quickly boost sales volumes, Chinese B2C e-commerce site Dangdang (NYSE: DANG) will join Tencent's (0700.HK) QQ Buy B2B2C platform under what the source said would be "a very open partnership format." "Orders won't have to be delivered with Dangdang's branded packaging," the source said. Dangdang has not offered any clear comment on the rumor.
A source familiar with Dangdang's open platform said that the e-commerce company's open platform strategy consisted of both operating its own open platform and of maintaining a presence on other companies' open platforms. "Dangdang is considering joining several other open platforms besides QQ Buy," the source said.
Dangdang's own open platform mainly offers clothing, shoes and accessories, computer and office supplies, and home appliances at present.
Chinese home appliance and consumer electronics retailer Gome (0493.HK) recently announced a comprehensive partnership with Dangdang. A Dangdang spokesperson said that rather than simply "setting up shop" on Gome's online store (http://www.gome.com.cn), Dangdang would initially sell home appliances provided by Gome, and could consider making Gome the sole provider of all of its home appliance products in the future.
The source quoted above said that Dangdang would cooperate comprehensively with its partners in the future to allow common customer logins between Dangdang, Gome, and QQ Buy's platforms.
