Rumor: Apple Calls on Trademark Office to Reject "ePad"
Sina Tech, 3/01/12
Guangdong-based CD and notebook case maker EBox Great Enterprises Technology said recently that Apple had filed a complaint against its "ePad" trademark. Apple has reportedly called on trademark authorities to reject the company's application for the "ePad" trademark for all Class 18 goods. According to a trademark dispute filing released by the company, Apple legal representatives claim that EBox attempted to register the trademark, which closely resembles Apple's own "iPad" trademark, with full knowledge of the widespread recognition of the iPad trademark clearly infringing on Apple's legal rights and interests.
EBox Great Enterprises Technology, a subsidiary of EBox Great Enterprises Group (HK), is a contract manufacturer and exporter of computer peripherals. Products manufactured under its eBox and ePad trademarks have been exported to Europe, Central Asia, and North America. EBox is also a supplier of Apple contract manufacturer Foxconn (2038.HK; 2354.TW). According to the website of the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, all trademarks in the range "aPad" to "zPad" have been registered.
Class 18 products include leather goods and luggage.
