Rumor: Netease Partners with Overseas Game Developer
DoNews, 2/27/12
Chinese internet company Netease (Nasdaq: NTES) has partnered with an unnamed overseas game developer to create a next-generation game codenamed "Game-X," according to an industry source.
A Netease marketing department employee said the game is not yet ready to be shown to the public and could not comment on the game's content. Leaked screenshots reveal it is a 3D game. Another industry insider confirmed that Netease is co-developing a new game with an overseas team codenamed "X5," which will be an MMO adaptation of a single-player title.
According to the source, Netease is gradually developing a next-generation game and is focused on improving graphics and technology. The game will resemble Tencent's (0700.HK) licensed 3D MMORPG Blade & Soul.
Editor's Note: The term "next-generation game" typically refers to a game that uses advanced technology that is not yet widely used. The term is most often used in reference to game consoles, but the technology is increasingly being used in online games such as Activision-Blizzard's World of Warcraft and Mythic Entertainment's Warhammer MMORPG.
