Baidu, Singaporean Government Establish Joint Research Lab

Chinese Internet search giant Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) and Singapore's Institute for Infocomm Research (I²R), a member of the Singapore government's Agency for Science, Technology, and Research (A*STAR), have agreed to set up a joint laboratory in Singapore where research and development will focus initially on underlying network technologies such as natural language processing of Southeast Asian Languages.

The new laboratory will be named the "Baidu- I²R Research Center" and referred to as BIRC. In the early stages, BIRC's research will center on Vietnamese and Thai specifically, in order to enhance the search experience of Southeast Asian users.
