87% of TMall Merchants Consider Outsourcing Stores

Alibaba Group's B2C e-commerce site TMall has announced that 86.5% of merchants wish to outsource a portion or all of their e-commerce operations, according to an internal survey.
TMall currently has 100 e-commerce outsourcing services providers, including large-scale ones such as Shanghai-based Baozun, which operates 64 TMall stores in a number of industries including the apparel, home appliances, cosmetics, childcare, and automobile industries, with 2011 sales volume reaching RMB 1.5 bln.
TMall currently hosts 50,000 stores and 70,000 brands, with over 40,000 considering using outsourcing services, according to the survey. With 100 outsourcing providers, each has an average of approximately 400 potential clients.
TMall is in the process of categorizing various e-commerce third-party service providers into categories such as full-service providers, third-party store operators, TMall Zhitongche paid search ranking service providers, photography and design providers, IT software service providers, and training and consulting service providers. TMall will provide additional assistance, training, and marketing opportunities to high-end service providers.
