SARFT Unveils New Rules for Foreign TV Programming

TechWeb, 2/14/12

China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) issued new rules for the management of foreign programming yesterday. The rules call for broadcasters to limit overseas TV series to a length of 50 episodes or fewer, to refrain from broadcasting the programs during prime time (7 PM to 10 PM), and to keep the daily proportion of overseas programming to 25% or less of a channel's total broadcast time for the day. Television stations may not broadcast overseas crime dramas or programs containing violent or vulgar content.
