Taobao Revises User Comment Deletion Policy

Ebrun.com, 2/06/12

Hangzhou-based C2C & B2C e-commerce site Taobao has made changes to its policies to allow Taobao to delete fraudulent product reviews that affect merchants' ratings and provide misleading product information.

While the previous policy allowed customers to provide comments on any product they've purchased, the new policy disables comments for certain product categories. Specifically, comments have been disabled for five supplemental products - including bonus "gifts" that can be purchased for an additional fee, down payment plans, and additional postage - available with the purchase of items from the "Other Products" category.

Under the new regulations, Taobao reserves the right to delete customer evaluations of these products, including trust and merchant ratings.

The new regulations will be implemented in two stages on February 13 and February 20.
