Netease E-Mail Supports Voice Search
Chinabyte.com, 2/03/12
Chinese internet company Netease (Nasdaq: NTES) has launched version 4.0 of its webmail client (http://mail.163.com), featuring voice search.
A project manager for Netease Mail said that using Chrome and 360chrome browsers featuring updated HTML5 support, users of Netease webmail services (163.com, 126.com, yeah.net, vip.163.com, vip.126.com, and 188.com) would be able to click on a microphone icon in the mailbox search field to search mail messages using the webmail service's voice recognition feature.
Netease Mail has worked to use HTML5 technology to improve the user experience, including expanding on the drag-and-drop attachment functionality it added previously to allow users to drag and drop attachments to download. New spellchecker functionality will allow users to avoid making spelling mistakes. The local storage capabilities of HTML5 will allow Netease Mail users to synchronize mail data (including preferences and mail history) to their computers when logging in, eliminating the need to connect to Netease's servers and resulting in appreciable speed boosts when browsing messages. Users of Internet Explorer 9 can receive new message notifications in their browser taskbar, with one-click links to Netease Mail's site, as well as desktop notifications.
