Intel to Establish Distribution Center in Chengdu

Intel has announced that it will build a western China distribution center, allowing the company to offer delivery of goods within 72 hours for its clients in Chengdu, Chongqing and other parts of the region. Intel currently operates a wafer preprocessing plant and a chip packaging and testing facility in Chengdu.
Executive director of Intel China, Ge Jun, has said that at present chips manufactured in Chengdu are distributed both domestically and overseas by the company's facilities in Shanghai and Shenzhen, raising costs and delaying client orders, issues the Chengdu distribution center is meant to resolve.
Chen Fu, director of the Chengdu Investment Promotion Commission, has said that the city is currently home to approximately 1,400 electronics firms which, as of late 2011, operate services across the industry chain including manufacturing, packaging and marketing. IT firms with presence in the two cities include Intel, Dell, Lenovo (0992.HK), Foxconn and HP.
