Rumor: China Telecom to Establish Cloud Computing Subsidiary
iFeng, 1/31/12
China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) is reportedly preparing to establish a national cloud computing subsidiary to oversee cloud computing operations in every province. The new company, to be housed in Beijing Telecom's offices, will initially have 100 employees.
In August 2011, China Telecom announced it would launch a series of E-Surfing brand cloud computing products in 2012 including cloud servers and storage. China Telecom's E-Surfing cloud computing strategy will roll out in three phases: first, China Telecom will rely on its data center infrastructure resources to create a unified national cloud data center, and during China's 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) will offer millions of high-performance virtual servers; second, China Telecom will establish a national unified cloud management platform providing a single point of access to nationwide cloud services; third, China Telecom will deploy high-speed interconnections between cloud data centers and high-speed access for users.
