Update: China to Introduce New Consumer Electronics Subsidies
Dnkb.com.cn, 1/20/12
Chen Deming, director of China's Ministry of Commerce, said recently that the ministry would look into drafting new "Appliances to the Countryside" and "Old for New" government subsidy policies for new and energy-saving electronics and appliances to replace the previous, expiring policies. On January 18, Ministry of Commerce spokesperson Shen Danyang said that the Ministry had settled on an initial direction for new consumer stimulus policies.
Zhao Ping, deputy director of the Consumer Economics Research Department at the Ministry of Commerce's Research Institute, said that the replacements for the "Appliances to the Countryside" and "Old for New" policies could take two forms. The first of these would be a simple continuation of the former policies. The other possibility would be policies designed to extend the former policies' subsidies for products to the category of services, including policies intended to promote senior care and home care services. Subsidy policies for energy-efficient products could be extended to cover energy-saving products, solar-powered products, and cars using new energy sources.
