Chinese online game developer and operator Shanda Games (Nasdaq: GAME) and Suzhou-based developer Snail Game announced today that they would develop a "dual-core operations" plan for Snail Game's self-developed martial-arts themed 3D MMORPG Age of Wushu, establishing a new cooperation model for the online gaming industry. Once preparations for the partnership are completed, Age of Wushu is slated to enter open beta in June 2012.
Shanda Games CEO Alan Tan explained that the "dual-core operations" model refers to one under which both companies participate in operations, rather than setting up separate servers. As Shanda Games' core competency is in data mining, the company will be responsible for data and user relationship maintenance, and will analyze the user data it manages with an emphasis on personalizing game content. Snail Game will be responsible for game content, operations technology, and strategy and planning.
Snail Game CEO Shi Hai further explained that while game servers would be physically located in a single place, employees from both companies would work together, and would share resources. Shanda Games has developed a set of systems in support of the Age of Wushu platform and services.
