Lenovo Raises Hard Disk Prices

CnBeta, 1/08/12

Chinese laptop, PC, and handset manufacturer Lenovo (0992.HK) has announced an increase in prices for hard disks due to supply shortages. Analysts believe that the floods in Thailand have led to a 75% decrease in production capacity, with some predictions of supply problems continuing until 2013. In November 2011, Lenovo announced hard disk shortages for enterprise IT customers, stating that its 160 GB, 7200 RPM hard disk had already sold out. Global IDC and storage solutions provider NetApp recently announced that as of February 6, the prices of hard disks will increase from 5 to 15%.
