SARFT Limits TV Ad Breaks to 12 Minutes Per Hour
Legal Evening News, 1/05/12
In light of the recent ban on broadcasting advertisements during TV drama episodes and the subsequent prolonging of ad breaks before and after episodes, industry sources have pointed out that Article 15 of State Administration of Radio, Film and Television's (SARFT) regulations regarding TV advertising implemented on January 1, 2010 prohibits ad break exceeding 12 minutes per hour. The article further stipulates that television channels must not permit more than a combined total of 18 minutes of advertisements from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. each night. The order implemented on January 1, 2012 by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) banning the broadcasting of advertisements during TV drama episodes is in fact a supplementary provision to the 2010 regulations. On December 30, 2011, SARFT announced a complaint hotline (010-8609-1111) for viewers to call in and report on any violations of the order.
