Xunlei Receives Warning Over Video Copyrights
Securities Daily, 1/04/12
The National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC) has added online P2P video service provider, download accelerator software developer, and online game operator Xunlei to its copyright non-compliance list for the first time in its recent audit of 18 online video sites due to Xunlei's failure to provide a complete list of its TV drama content and relevant licenses.
Chinese online video platform UUSee and P2P downloading site VeryCD have both been put on the list a second time due to poor overall compliance, and face the possibility of being blacklisted two months from now if their situations don't improve, following which the NCAC says legal action will be taken against the companies.
In addition, the NCAC also notes the discovery of copyright enforcement issues on various online video sites including Joy.cn, PPLive (PPTV), Tudou (Nasdaq: TUDO), Baofeng, Funshion, Shanda Interactive (Nasdaq: SNDA)'s Ku6 (Nasdaq: KUTV), Sina (Nasdaq: SINA) and Pipi.cn. The NCAC has required that all unauthorized TV drama content hosted on these sites be immediately removed, and adds that the possibility of facing investigations and legal action exists for sites which do not comply in a timely fashion.
