Rumor: Perfect World Subsidiary Cuts Staff

DoNews, 12/28/11

An industry source has revealed that Beijing-based browser game developer and operator Perfect World's (Nasdaq: PWRD) Chengdu-based subsidiary, Ye Net Science and Technology Development, has announced massive layoffs of staff for several projects, including its browser games Zhu Xian and Aerial Paladin.

The source said that Perfect World has made R&D for the browser version of its MMORPG Zhu Xian a major focus over the past year, speculating that the project was terminated due to poor testing results which also led to layoffs of the game's designers, artistic designers and programmers. The firing of a portion of the Aerial Paladin team, the source said, was likely due to declining performance, adding that all recently terminated employees had been given severance pay based on the number of months spent working for the company.
