Rumor: Ex-Kingsoft Executives Launch Education Start-Up
DoNews, 12/22/11
An industry source has revealed that CTO Wang Haiming and COO Dong Hexin of Chinese software company Kingsoft's (3888.HK) Powerword dictionary software subsidiary recently left the company to launch Chuanke.com, an online education platform.
The source said that aside from Wang and Dong, most founding employees of the start-up, Chuanke Computing System (Beijing) Co., Ltd., are former staff of Chinese internet giant Tencent (0700.HK).
Chuanke has already begun operations, providing an online platform for teachers to provide online classes using a variety of tools such as real-time audio and synchronous Powerpoint presentations, as well as a system to guarantee that teachers receive payments from participating students. Online instruction in Chuanke courses is being provided by prominent teachers recruited from schools in Beijing's Haidian district.
Industry speculation suggests that Chuanke has received angel investment, but no related details have been released by the company.
