Alibaba to Launch On-Site Supplier Screening Service
Sina Tech, 12/21/11
Chinese B2B e-commerce company Alibaba.com (1688.HK) today announced it will work with China Post and an independent verification company to offer on-site certification services for all China-based merchants starting in early 2012.
The certification process will consist of two major steps. First, after a merchant applies for certification, an agent from one of China Post's nationwide outlets will visit the merchant's premises. There, the agent will collect the merchant's business license, the merchant's legal representative's identity card, tax and business registration certificates as well as other materials. Finally, the agent will take down evidence of the merchant's premises, including equipment, machines, and warehouse products. In step two of the process, all of these documents will be sent to an independent verification company, China Chengxin Credit Management Company, for certification.
An Alibaba employee stated that merchants that have gone through the certification process will have it clearly indicated at the top of their Alibaba pages, allowing consumers to easily screen suppliers.
