Ex-Ku6 Executive Launches UGC Mobile Video App
Tencent Tech, 12/09/11
Zhao Liang, who resigned as CTO and chief software architect of Shanda Interactive's (Nasdaq: SNDA) online video subsidiary Ku6 (Nasdaq: KUTV) in August this year to launch his own start-up, recently unveiled iShehui, a user-generated content (UGC) mobile video sharing app for Android.
iShehui allows users to upload and share video taken using a mobile phone, as well as pair video clips with background music.
Zhao said that a compression algorithm unique to the iShehui app allows users to upload video at 1/10 their original size. Zhao also revealed that his new start-up has received nearly RMB 10 mln in VC funding, and that in the week since its launch on 91 separate platforms, iShehui has been downloaded more than 500,000 times.
Prior to joining Ku6, Zhao served as CTO for video site Tudou (Nasdaq: TUDO).
