Aliyun Handset Wins China Unicom Subsidy

Beijing-based handset maker Tianyu Communication Equipment recently announced on its official Sina microblog that it had reached an agreement with China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) to offer its Aliyun OS-based K-Touch W700 handset under a contract plan. Under the plan, subscribers who purchase a W700 handset and commit to a 24-month service contract normally priced at RMB 156/month will receive free plan service for the first nine months. For the remaining 15 months, their monthly fees will be only RMB 60 per month, rather than the standard RMB 156. The contract will allow subscribers to receive an RMB 2,888 value with an RMB 800 purchase.
