Tianyu, Tencent to Launch Mid-range QQ Handset
Tencent Tech, 9/08/11
Rong Xiuli, chairwoman of Tianyu Communication Equipment, said in a recent interview with TechWeb that the Beijing-based handset maker would partner with Tencent (0700.HK) to launch a handset pre-loaded with a suite of QQ mobile applications in early October. The new handset will feature a 4.3" display and retail for RMB 2,980. Tencent and Tianyu have yet to settle on a profit sharing agreement.
The handset will feature "QQ Service," a mobile solution integrating Tencent's mobile QQ client, a mobile browser, QZone mobile SNS client, Tencent mobile microblogging client, and other applications.
Chinese telecom equipment and terminal manufacturer Huawei previously released the Huawei HiQQ and C8500 handsets, both pre-loaded with QQ Service. This June, China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) and Tencent partnered to announce six "E-Surfing QQ Smartphones." The previous handsets, however, were all priced at or below RMB 1,000, and were targeted at students.
