Baidu Redesigns Search Homepage
iFeng Tech, 9/02/11
Robin Li, founder and CEO of Chinese internet giant Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU), unveiled the company's new homepage at the Baidu World 2011 Conference in Beijing today.
Once logged in, Baidu users will now arrive at a new customizable homepage. Beneath Baidu's traditional search query box, the new version of the homepage now includes a list of the user's favorite websites, a list of trending search queries, links to applications, and a social aggregator. The new homepage embodies three major changes: centralized services, information and applications; integrated access to a range of websites and online services using a single account; and 'smart' recommendations of applications and services determined through algorithmic selection and machine learning based on each user's behavior and stated interests.
Baidu began limited testing of its new homepage in early July. According to information released by the company, Baidu's new homepage will be available not only through PC web browsers, but also through other terminals such as mobile devices, in-vehicle internet interfaces and TV sets.
Li also said that Baidu's new homepage "will be like an open stage for our many developers and partners. Quality online content, applications and services will now have equal chances of being featured for users on the Baidu homepage."
