TechWeb, 8/24/11
At a recent press conference in Beijing, China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) and Chinese internet company Sina (Nasdaq: SINA) announced eight new operator-customized E-Surfing 3G handsets pre-loaded with Sina's Weibo mobile application. The eight handsets are the Motorola XT883, Huawei C8650, ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) N760, Hisense E520, Coolpad 5820, Tianyu K-Touch E800, Lenovo (0992.HK) A68e, and HTC (2498.TW) S710d. With the exception of the Hisense E520, which runs BREW OS, the handsets all run Android.
A spokesperson for Sina said that the company had signed a strategic partnership agreement with China Telecom in early June for projects including the pre-installing of Sina Weibo on key operator-customized handsets and joint development of a BREW client for the platform.
